With the temperatures soaring all over the UK, we wanted to share some helpful information on how to keep cool and safe during the warm weather.
Here are some helpful hints and tips, accredited and sourced from GOV.co.uk.
Block out sunlight
This may sound like an obvious one, but a lot of people think having the windows open helps but a lot the time, if the temperatures outside are reaching higher than inside your home, keeping the windows shut is a no brainer.
To add to keeping the heat out of your home, keep blinds and curtains closed to shade and shelter your home as best as you can. An extra measure is to keep all respective doors shut to keep the heat spreading from rooms you do not use.
Ventilation
Use electric fans to circulate air flow if the temperature is below 35 degrees.
At night when the air feels cooler outside than inside, keep air flowing through open doors & windows if itβs safe to do so.
Keep appliances off
To reduce heat generated in the home, turn off lights and electrical equipment that are not in use and consider cooking at cooler times of the day. Even better, food that does not require cooking or using a garden BBQ where safe to do so.
Consider leaving the house to a cooler spot elsewhere
It may be cooler outside in the shade or in a public building (such as places of worship, local libraries, or supermarkets) so consider a visit as a way of cooling down if you are able to safely travel there without putting yourself at more risk from the heat.
Keeping Hydrated
Keeping hydrated with water, cool fruit like watermelon and fruit ice lollies can also help keep you cool & hydrated.
