I’m on holiday went to top up and discovered that my electricity had run out. I didn’t get my warning low credit message. I’ve since topped up, showing credit on my account but the electricity has not gone back on. Do I need to do something with the actual meter?

Yes indeed if your actual electric went off, then you would need to rearm your meter.
Depending on your meter type it could be slightly different, but in most cases this is done by pressing the A then the B button on the meter.
