    I am being charged

    ELECTRICITY TARIFFELEC-London-Smart Energy
All Periods - First 2 kWh each Day at 47.82p per kWh, thereafter at 29.39p. Standing Charge is £0. Prices are inclusive of Vat at 5%

    GAS TARIFFGAS-London-Smart Energy
All Periods - First 2 kWh each Day at 25.988p per kWh, thereafter at 7.491p. Standing Charge is £0. Prices are inclusive of Vat at 5%

    But the ofgem cap is

    Electricity £0.28 per kWh
    Daily standing charge: £0.45

    Gas £0.07 per kWh
    Daily standing charge: £0.27

is there anyone being charged like this ? over the ofgem cap ?

@vakeesan26 Thank you for bringing this to our attention. I have gone away to work with out Pricing Department - and they have fully investigated this for you and I - and come back with the following and fully understand your confusion and worry here. Please see the response below - I really do hope this helps 🙂

    Hi Vakeesan

Unfortunately the data provided by Ofgem is somewhat oversimplified, rounding both the pence-per-day and pence-per-unit rate down over both electricity and gas values – for context, rounding down the gas unit rate alone by 0.499p/kWh could understate costs by almost £60 for a typical customer (before considering electricity or standing charges)! Additionally, the data assumes everyone is on a direct debit tariff and then provides a flat average across all regions of the country – again, for context, the cost to provide supply a typical dual fuel customer between the most and least expensive regions is can vary by almost £90.

Ofgem provide their final calculation for the cap here: https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/sites/default/files/2022-02/Default_tarif_cap_level_v1.10.xlsx (see ‘1a Default tariff cap’). This lists the London prepayment cap (see Row 63) at typical usage, and before 5% VAT, is £996.82 for electricity (£1,046.66 with VAT) and £985.68 for gas (£1,034.96 with VAT). The annual cost of your Smart Energy tariff, at Ofgem’s typical usage, would be as follows:

    Electricity:

    • 2 kWh/day x 365 days/year x 47.82p = £349.09
    • (3,100 total kWh/year – [2 kWh/day x 365 days/year]) x 29.39p = £696.54
    • Total Electricity Annual Cost = £349.09 + £696.54 = £1,045.63 (approx. £1 below the cap)

    Gas:

    • 2 kWh/day x 365 days/year x 25.988p = £189.71
    • (12,000 total kWh/year – [2 kWh/day x 365 days/year]) x 7.491p = £844.24
    • Total Electricity Annual Cost = £189.71 + £844.24 = £1,033.95 (approx. £1 below the cap)

The cap data provided Ofgem would breakdown as follows:

    • Electricity: (3,100 kWh x 28p) + (365 days x 45p) = £1,032.25 (over £14 below London prepay cap)
    • Gas: (12,000 kWh x 7p) + (365 days x 27p) = £938.55 (almost £100 below the London prepay cap)

Apologies for the confusion this must have caused you.
