So I use the Trio meter that came with my meters like I'm sure many do. But I connected mine to a thing called Geo home, it tends to be faster and I can easily see what I'm using right now on my phone without having to go to the trio (it's actually in a really awkward spot to get signal). It also connected to home assistant for even more info.

However they've decided to end that... and now want to sell a new one called Seezero.

I've no idea if that would work on home assistant (probably not because the geo thing was a custom thing) but would you even be able to connect your own in home display to the meters? It claims with a compatability checker it would be compatible but I couldn't be sure it would work with Utilita its self.

    Hi @Cubey

Thanks for raising this. The In-Home Display (IHD) supplied with Utilita smart meters, such as the Geo Trio, connects directly to the smart meter network and is designed to show live energy usage, balances, tariff information and historical consumption data. It should continue to work independently of any third-party apps or services.

In terms of using your own IHD, compatibility can vary. While some third-party devices may state they are compatible with UK smart meters, Utilita can only guarantee support for the IHD supplied as part of the smart meter installation.

The Geo Home platform is a service provided by Green Energy Options (GEO), rather than Utilita Energy. If GEO are withdrawing support for that service, it should not affect the operation of your smart meters or your Trio display itself.

If you're considering a replacement device such as SeeZero, I'd recommend checking directly with the manufacturer regarding compatibility and any integration with platforms such as Home Assistant, as this falls outside Utilita support. The compatibility checker may indicate the device can communicate with your meters, but Utilita wouldn't be able to guarantee the functionality of third-party hardware or software integrations.

    Kind Regards Dean

I'm just going to try it. They claim they'll connect it. They won't even have an app until 2027... so no home assistant support. But geo was a custom integration so I'd hope that could happen again.
They're giving me a discount and I'm sure if it all goes wrong it can be reverted and sent back... I'd hope.
