Hi all!
Thanks for your posts - We're excited to be able to get your Warm Home Discount payments onto your meters early in January!
My colleague Dean has written a fantastic post about the Warm Home Discount - you can read more
here.
We know that many people are in need of the Warm Home Discount now, and we also know that other suppliers have paid it. We have felt that in looking at "seasonality" - when it's going to be coldest or warmest - January is the best time for people to receive it. It's after Christmas, the temperature drops further, and people's finances need it the most.
The timing of WHD payments isn’t decided by Utilita. The scheme is set by the Government and administered by Ofgem, and all suppliers have until the end of March to make every eligible payment. This means payment dates can differ between suppliers.
Under Ofgem’s reconciliation process, the WHD is funded through a cost‑recovery mechanism that applies to
all suppliers. A portion of every customer bill contributes towards the scheme. Some suppliers, usually larger ones, collect enough funding early in the year to make payments sooner. Smaller suppliers with a higher proportion of eligible customers often need to wait for additional funding to be released through the reconciliation process before payments can begin.
We’ve now received confirmation of when this funding will be released, and as a result, Utilita will begin issuing WHD payments from
7 January 2026, this will be one payment of £150. Payments will continue throughout the month, and we expect to complete all eligible payments, including those for customers who have since left our supply, by the end of January.
If you haven’t received your payment by
28 January 2026, please get in touch so we can look into this for you. And of course, if any issues arise, we’ll make sure they’re resolved well before the end of March, in line with our obligations under the scheme.
If you need support before the Warm Home Discount our team are here to help - either through the live chat system, or by giving us a call.
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Pete
