The Day: 11th November – created to mark the end of World War One in 1918.
Previously known as Armistice Day (means Stand Arms) –This is the Agreement to the end of fighting- the timing was when the peace negotiations began.
To Commemorate:
We hold a 2-minute silence at 11 am on the 11th Day of the 11th Month

Remembrance Parades – Parades and laying or wreaths and poppies is held on Sunday 9th November 2025.

Veterans and supporting services parade through the streets, sadly no veterans from World War One, remain alive. But there are Veterans from subsequent conflicts.

Words of Remembrance: Ode - Remembrance

LEST WE FORGET
They Shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them”.
(part of a longer poem “For The Fallen”)

The Poppy – during the World War I fighting which took place on the Western front of Europe known as Flanders– where the field were changed from a beautiful landscape to fields of mud the Poppy was a resilient flower which flourished.
Red Poppy is the flower of remembrance - Wearing a poppy is a personal choice
Other coloured Poppies used
White Poppy – a symbol of Peace – to remember civilians and military personnel – and aims to promote a commitment to finding non- violent solutions to war.
Purple Poppy – represented by a paw badge – is worn to remember the animal victims of war and include horses, dogs and pigeons
Black Poppy – commemorates Black, African and Caribbean communities and there effort they made.

WAR
War moves on
It’s also a time to remember current conflicts going on today.
